Coureur des Bois Is a Maple Cream Beverage from Quebec

Golden, rich, and unmistakably Québécois—maple cream is a sweet experience. Photographing a bottle of Coureur des Bois is about capturing warmth in every frame.

The Challenge of the Bottle’s Shape

At first glance, the bottle looks rectangular—but it’s not. Every surface curves, like the bodywork of a Volkswagen Sirocco. Left to right, top to bottom, there isn’t a single flat side. Lighting it properly took testing and patience. To make it even trickier, the bottle is glossy black.

I decided to focus on the edges, tracing them with light. This kept the image clean while showing off the bottle’s shape and the all-important labelling.

A Perspective of Power

Placing the camera at a lower angle makes the bottle look bold and prestigious. A straight-on shot feels more personal, inviting the viewer to reach out, pour a glass, and enjoy. I wanted the drink to look as rich and sweet as it tastes.

Crafting the Final Image

The post-processing brings the labelling and bottle's shape to centre stage. Adjusting contrast and clarity, subtle dodging and burning—all to highlight the label and keep the bottle looking crisp.

Six Images, One Story

This six-image series showcases the essence of Quebec craftsmanship in every glass.

Cheers! 🍁🥂
