Chasing The Light

“In the beginning, a long time ago …”

I mostly shot outdoors. I shot on weekends, more specifically on Sunday afternoons. Walking the streets of Montreal, just looking for the light. For more times than I would like to admit, the light eluded me. I reviewed the captured images – nothing of interest. Most beginners would probably have been discouraged and stopped shooting, but not me. I would go out full of hope, chasing the light, weekend after weekend, to capture that one frame of light.

Now, I work in a studio and control the light. I shoot tabletop and lifestyle. So, tabletop: products, food, beverages, you know, stuff that can fit on a table. Lifestyle: people using stuff, doing stuff, creating stuff, caring for others, you get the gist.

So this is what I can do with light: carve it, reflect it, flag it, diffuse it, focus it. (There is more, I’m sure …)

It’s all about control.

Image : I know, those grapes aren’t the right type for wine, but hey, I shot this in winter.
